MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
APRIL 13, 1994
responding to calls, therefore, unable to do patrolling.
Bergeron replied that that was correct, the squads are
busy running back and forth to calls.
Scalze asked how traffic accidents on Rice Street were
handled.
Bergeron reported that the dispatcher will determine on
which side of the street an accident has occurred and
will dispatch the appropriate car.
Morelan asked if the Roseville Police Department was
available to assist in some situations.
Bergeron replied that there is an unwritten mutual aid
agreement between departments. In emergency situations,
Roseville will respond, as would the Sheriff~s Department
if Roseville had an emergency. However, this assistance
cannot be routinely depended upon.
Morelan asked for an explanation of priority 1 and 2
calls, which Bergeron provided. Bergeron pointed out
that even though alarm calls are priority 1, due to
staffing problems, one car has been responding to the
alarm, and will call in a second car if needed. Bergeron
pointed out that this is an unsafe practice, just as is
running lights and sirens to a call from one end of the
City to another.
LaValle stated that he had no problem with exploring the
potential of adding another squad from 5 P.M. to 3 A.M.
LaValle felt another reason for adding the squad would be
the enhanced patrol concept.
Bergeron agreed, indicating that community policing is
very important and something that deputies have not had
time to do since they are spending all their time
responding to calls.
The Administrator pointed out that there will be major
discussions of this proposal and the allocation of costs
at the contracting cities meeting.
9
