MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 15, 1995
24-year old building for the good of the City. Fahey
stated that he would like a higher comfortable level
and someone with some experience representing the City
saying that this is a qood project.
Scalze felt that the cottages interfere with the flow
of the project. Scalze was also concerned about the
location of the hotel.
Collyard pointed out that the hotel is a two-story
structure, therefore, will have profile from Rice
Street.
Fahey asked if the hotel would have banquet facilities.
Collyard replied that it would. The Venetian Inn would
operate the restaurant in the hotel as well as the
banquet facilities.
Scalze asked how the theater would compare with the
Roseville 4.
Collyard replied that the theater would be larger and
more upscale than the Roseville 4. The theater would
be a national chain that would get first-run movies in
their second week of release and would charge a dollar
less admission than the first-run theaters.
Fahey asked the City Planner his opinion on the senior
cottages.
The Planner stated that he believed that senior housing
in that location was a good fit with the Gateway
Project concept. However, the cottage concept has had
problems in other locations, and the Planner would
recommend that this concept be scrutinized by the
Council. A significant amount of subsidy would be
required for the cottages, and it appears that when the
subsidy runs out, rents would sky-rocket.
Fahey asked if a senior project similar to Presbyterian
Homes would be better.
The Planner replied that that is a different product.
The Planner also pointed out that there are different
ways to finance senior projects.
Fahey asked if the cottages would be guaranteed as
9
