At that
meeting participants were divided into small groups and
asked to discuss four topics related to Rice Street.
These topics addressed vision for the future, things
people like about the area, needed changes and barriers
to change.
Fifield reported that the topic of Vision received the
most responses. Groups had very specific ideas about
the future of Rice Street. Over 63% of the comments
dealt with specific forms of development and
activities. 28 comments focused on qualities of the
vision, but did not concentrate on a specific
characteristic. Creating a design and identity seemed
to be the most common element.
Fahey asked for a summary of responses based on the
number of individual discussion groups.
Fifield replied that he will review the discussion
guides and provide that information.
With regard to the question on Likes, the groups
identified 75 things they like about the Rice Street
area. 45% of the comments dealt with specific uses.
No single use stood out. It appears that the groups
liked a variety of qualities about Rice Street, listing
accessibility, small town feel, and small businesses.
1
