MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
DECF,[~iBER 20, 1995
Tautges replied none. Tautges reported that any
schedule his firm generates for the City is provided to
the City. The City has full access to all information.
Fahey asked if Tautges has the City's special
assessment records. Tautges replied that they did not.
Fahey asked if Tautges was prepared to honor their
commitment for three years for auditing services not to
exceed'$17,000, plus an additional $2,000 in accounting
services.
Tautges replied that they would honor that commitment.
The City Administrator reported that the $2,000 is his
estimate based on past practice for extra services
beyond the audit. The Administrator reported that he
would budget the $2,000 regardless of which firm does
the audit.
Fahey stated that he was not aware of any independence
problem or accounting issue as suggested by Carson.
Fahey indicated that he has been satisfied with the
reports and services provided by Tautges in the past,
and the City Administrator has recommended retaining
Tautges Redpath. Fahey stated that he saw no reason to
change unless the City was dissatisfied with the
services provided or the cost difference was
overriding. Fahey pointed out that the proposal
includes a three-year commitment from Tautges Redpath.
Morelan pointed out an additional analogy of someone
coming in and offering to do the City Administrator's
job for less money. It is possible someone could come
in and successfully do the job for less, but Morelan
pointed out the professional relationship that has been
established. Morelan noted that there is no compelling
reason to change. Morelan stated that he applauded
Olsen Theilen efforts. They are outstanding corporate
citizen of Little Canada. The day may come when the
City will not be satisfied. If that day happens,
Morelan stated that he will look at Olsen Theilen with
great interest. However, now is not the proper time.
Carson pointed out that with an independent review, the
City will know what kind of job Tautges has done.
Pedersen felt the argument carried some weight.
Pedersen also believed that at some point the fee
became relevant.
Fahey pointed out that the City Administrator runs the
14
