MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />NOVEMBER 19~ 1996 <br />requested, if that would be an indication of approval <br />of the various items listed in the budget. <br />The City Administrator replied that that would be <br />correct. The Administrator reported that some costs <br />have been eliminated. The budget includes $2,000 for a <br />copy machine for the Fire Station. Public Works <br />currently has a copy machine which is used very <br />infrequently. It is proposed that this machine be <br />given to the Fire Department, with the Fire Department <br />assuming maintenance costs for the machine. <br />Scalze asked if a decision had been made on the Cairns <br />IRIS Helmet. <br />The Administrator reported that staff <br />helmet in the CIP budget based on the <br />rankings. The Administrator reported <br />did get fairly good endorsements from <br />from a public safety standpoint. Fahey indicated that the Cairns helmet is <br />not a common piece of equipment with Fire Departments, <br />and is state-of-the-art. <br />The City Administrator reported that the Fire <br />Department is planning to use charitable gambling <br />proceeds to pay for the upgrade of the 1982 pumper <br />truck. <br />Scalze asked if other fire departments around Little <br />Canada had a Cairns helmet. <br />Jim Morelan reported that at the time the helmet was <br />first proposed it was a new item. However, in the last <br />six months several Metro departments have purchased <br />these helmets. Morelan estimated that 15 to 20 Metro <br />departments had the helmet. <br />Steve Morelan asked if the helmet and hose washer were <br />previously listed on the 10% List. The Administrator <br />replied that they were. Morelan stated that by <br />definition of the 10% Fund, those dollars are to be <br />6 <br />
