MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
JANUARY 22, 1997
Johnson suggested that if an addition is put onto the
City Center for the Historical Society, that space
double as a community center. Pedersen pointed out
that the theory is that the Historical Society space
will be full of displays. It was noted that a decision
on the Aistorical Society Addition has not been
finalized.
DiFranco stated that while the old fire station
provides an area for meetings, he is thinking of space
which could be used for athletics.
Fahey asked for opinions on the use of the Acquisition
Fund for purchase of Round Lake properties with the
balance of the Fund to be retained for acquisition
purposes.
The Director stated that he would not want to see the
fund depleted given that there may be additional
acquisition needs identified in the future.
Johnson stated that she would not want to stand in the
way of acquiring the Round Lake properties. However,
if the City can fund an addition for the Aistorical
Society, Johnson felt that a nature center for Gervais
Mill Park should also be developed.
Christensen supported that acquisition of the Round
Lake properties and felt the land would be a good
addition to the City's park system. Christensen stated
that he would like to see any path system developed
around Round Lake to connect to the path on the Water
Works property.
Morelan stated that he would like to see a formal
recommendation from the Commission on the use of the
Park Acquisition Fund made at their next meeting.
TRAIL The City Administrator noted that trail improvements
IMPROVEMENTS along Centerville Road connecting Pioneer and Spooner
Parks and along Lakeshore Avenue from Australian to
County Road C are a part of the City's 1997
Infrastructure Improvement Budget.
The Administrator reported that the City is discussing
the upgrade of Centerville Road with the County. The
trail improvement along Centerville could be a part of
this project. Bill Sanders recommended that the path
be a separated path given the traffic volume and speed
limit on Centerville Road.
4
