MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
APRIL 16,1997
increased rental revenue. Scalze pointed out that LitCle Canada
participates in the Livable Communities Act, and that the City is above the
level of affordable housin~ that it is required to provide. The City is
already doing more than its share in this area. Therefore, Scalze opposed
increasing this percentage.
Brachman indicated that rent levels will stay where they are at whether the
City approves an increase in tax credits or not. However, over time rents
will increase.
LaValle and Pedersen indicated that they supported an increase to the 65%
tax credit level.
Scalze suggested that staff obtain police call information for the apartment
complexes in the City.
Fahey felt it was good any time the City can encoura~e an investment in
an apartment com}~lex. Fahey also felt that Dominium would do the
appropriate back~round checks on prospective tenants to ensure that good
citizens lease these units.
Scalze expressed concern that rents at The Provinces are less than rents at
Montreal Courts. 73rachman replied that Dominium is not artificially
depressing rents because of the tax credit issue.
Fahey pointed out that Dominium is aware of the CounciPs concerns
about affordable housing, and asked that Dominium provide the City with
written commitments on how they will minage the complex. Urness
agreed.
Scalze r'eported that Montreal Coiu'ts mana~ement is doin~ a goodjob
minlging this complex, and there are stiil problems at the complex.
Scalze aglin indicated that she wou(d be interested in a comparison of
police c111s aY the various aparhnent complexes.
The City Administrator indicated that he would place the tax credit issue
on the April 23"~ regular meeting a~enda for raYificatioi~. Information
which will be provided to the Council will include information on police
calls as well as Dominium's management plan for the complex.
