STAFF
REPORT
TO:Mayor Fischer and Members of City Council
FROM:Heidi Heller, City Clerk/HR Manager
DATE:April 23, 2025
RE:Approve Hire of New Fire Inspector
ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED:
Approve the hire of Mindy Fiester as part-time Fire Inspector.
BACKGROUND:
Sam Baker, the previous Fire Inspector for 3.5 years recently resigned due to moving out of
state. The fire inspector position is currently budgeted for 12 hours per week. This position is
responsible for completing the annual required fire inspections of commercial and multi-family
properties, and is a community resource for fire code questions and concerns.
Staff posted the fire inspector position and received four applications. Two applicants were
chosen for an interview with the Community Development Director, Little Canada Fire Chief
and City Clerk, and Mindy Fiester was selected as the finalist. Mindy has a bachelor’s degree in
business management, along with the many trainings and certifications that are required to be a
firefighter and fire inspector. She is currently the Manager of Hazardous Materials Inspections
for the City of Minneapolis Fire Inspections Department, along with being a volunteer firefighter
on three fire departments since 2011.
Her passion for educating and protecting people, and positive customer service attitude will be a
great fit for Little Canada staff and residents.
Mindy is excited to come to Little Canada and will be starting the week of April 21, 2025.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends the Council approve the hire of Mindy Fiester as Fire Inspector, effective the
week of April 21, 2025.
