STAFF <br />REPORT <br />TO:Mayor Fischer and Members of City Council <br />FROM:Heidi Heller, City Clerk/HR Manager <br />DATE:April 23, 2025 <br />RE:Approve Hire of New Fire Inspector <br />ACTION TO BE CONSIDERED: <br />Approve the hire of Mindy Fiester as part-time Fire Inspector. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Sam Baker, the previous Fire Inspector for 3.5 years recently resigned due to moving out of <br />state. The fire inspector position is currently budgeted for 12 hours per week. This position is <br />responsible for completing the annual required fire inspections of commercial and multi-family <br />properties, and is a community resource for fire code questions and concerns. <br />Staff posted the fire inspector position and received four applications. Two applicants were <br />chosen for an interview with the Community Development Director, Little Canada Fire Chief <br />and City Clerk, and Mindy Fiester was selected as the finalist. Mindy has a bachelor’s degree in <br />business management, along with the many trainings and certifications that are required to be a <br />firefighter and fire inspector. She is currently the Manager of Hazardous Materials Inspections <br />for the City of Minneapolis Fire Inspections Department, along with being a volunteer firefighter <br />on three fire departments since 2011. <br />Her passion for educating and protecting people, and positive customer service attitude will be a <br />great fit for Little Canada staff and residents. <br />Mindy is excited to come to Little Canada and will be starting the week of April 21, 2025. <br />RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends the Council approve the hire of Mindy Fiester as Fire Inspector, effective the <br />week of April 21, 2025.
