WHEREAS, more than 35,000 Hmong lives were lost, over 50,000 Hmong <br />were seriously injured or disabled, and over 3,000 Hmong soldiers were missing in <br />action, defending democracy and America’s interest in Laos; and <br />WHEREAS, on May 15, 1975, Community Pathet Lao took control of the <br />country, forcing thousands of Hmong and other Laotian ethnic groups to became <br />political refugees, resettling throughout the world and contributing socially, <br />economically, and politically to their new homeland; and <br />WHEREAS, on Thursday, May 15, 1997, the United States government <br />dedicated a copper plaque memorial monument at the Arlington National Cemetery <br />in Virginia in recognition of the military services of the Hmong and Lao and their <br />American advisors. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that I, Tom Fischer, <br />Mayor of the City of Little Canada, Minnesota, do hereby proclaim Thursday, May <br />15th, as Hmong and Lao Special Guerrilla Units Veterans Day in Little Canada. <br />Adopted this 14th Day of May, 2025. <br />________________________________ <br />Thomas Fischer, Mayor
