MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />AUGUST 13, 1997 <br />RESOI. UTION NO. 97-8-189 - ACCEPTING THE RE.SIGNATION <br />OF JENNIFER AASEN, AND AUTHORIZING STAFF TO <br />ADVERTISE THIS VACANCY <br />The fore~oin~; resolution was duly seconded by Pedersen. <br />Ayes (3) Scalze, Pedersen, Fahey. <br />Nays (0). Mr. LaValle was not present. Resolution declared adopted. <br />APPOINTMENTS Council reviewed the report submitted by the Parks & Recreation <br />TO THE PARKS Director regardin~ the interviews which were held by himself and a <br />AND member of the Commission with the applicants to the Parks & <br />RECREATION Recreation Commission. It was noted that there are four vacancies <br />COMMISSION on the Commission. The term of one vacancy is through December, 1997, <br />there are two terms through December, 1998, and one term through <br />December, 1999. The City has received five applications for these four <br />terms. <br />The Council took a ballot to determine which of the five applicants would <br />be appointed to the Commission. That ballot resulted in the selection of <br />Matthew Anderson, Ginger Sackett Glaser, Howard Remerowski, and <br />Kathleen Smith. The Council took a second ballot which resulted in <br />Howard Remerowski bein~ appointed to the Parks & Recreation <br />Commission for a term ending December of 1997, Matthew Anderson and <br />Gin~er Sackett Glaser bein~ appointed for terms ending December of <br />1998, and Kathleen Smith bein~ appointed for a term ending December of <br />1999. <br />The Council thanked all the applicants for their willingness to serve on the <br />Parks & Recreation Commission. <br />REDEVELOP- Mayor Fahey reported that at 5 P.M. this evening, the Council held a <br />MENT workshop meeting with Laurent-Parks to discuss the redevelopment of <br />WORKSHOP the Rice Street/Little Canada Road area. At that workshop Laurent-Parks <br />presented the concept of a 17-screen movie theatre at the intersection of <br />Rice Street and Little Canada Road, Little Canada Road being eliminated <br />between Rice Street and Market Drive, development of a parking ramp in <br />the immediate area, and the potential spin-off of retail and restaurant <br />development as a result of the movie theatre. At that workshop City staff <br />was instructed to look at the financial feasibility of the proposal and report <br />back to the Council at a later date. The City Administrator anticipated that <br />the next meeting on this matter would occur some time in September. <br />9 <br />
