The location of the
MENT PROJECT proposed theater was discussed. Wise initially proposed the theater
immediately south of the Market Place Shopping Center. Grootwassink
and Hotzler expressed concern that the placement would block visibility of
the shopping center from both Little Canada Road and Rice Street. Based
on that concern, Wise indicated that the theater could be placed just west
of The Mayfield. This would require that the bowling alley be taken out.
Fahey reported that additional discussions with Cinemark focused on the
remainder of the redevelopment area. It was felt that the bank property
would have to be redeveloped and that Middle Street would have to be
improved to the south of Little Canada Road and connected to Rice Street.
Cinemark would like the entire area redeveloped in order to generate
adequate increment and draw for the area.
