MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />MAY 13,1998 <br />Moarn pointed out that it will not be the same type of space - it will be <br />new space. <br />Fahey indicated that the major concern is that things will not work for the <br />existing businesses. They will need a turn-key operation as part of the <br />re(ocation. Fahey stated that he is not interested in putting any of these <br />businesses out of business. <br />Moarn indicated that Cinemark has said that the City needs to resolve this <br />problem. <br />The City Administrator pointed out that Cinemark will build the theater <br />and I<im Wise has other developers for the rest of the redevelopment <br />project. Wise has also indicated that a redevelopment site of larger than <br />ten acres w1s necessary in order to get Cinemark interested. The <br />Admii~istrator pointed out tl~at the City has the ability to set some <br />parlmeters. <br />Fahey indicated that before the City can ~;o forward, we need to know <br />what can be done for the existing businesses on the 10-aa~e parcel. Fahey <br />felt that the alignment of the theater as proposed by Cinemark was right, <br />and he supported the decrease in the number of screens from 17 to 14. <br />Fahey felt that the City and Cinemark needed to explore whether or not <br />the existing busi~~esses can be relocated. <br />Joe Vitlle indicated that The Venetian Inn is interested in relocating, but <br />not as it exists today. The Venetian would like a 6,000 to 10,000 square <br />foot space. <br />Mike Wells, Ultimate Golf, stated that they wou]d like something to look <br />at, speciCcally the numbers and relocation options. Wells indicated that <br />Ultimate Golf would like an 8,000 to 9,000 square foot space. <br />Scalze pointed out that there will be only so much first t7oor space, and <br />questioned the ability to relocate all of the businesses on the first floor. <br />Fahey indicated that Tierney's currently has about 3,000 square feet. <br />Randy Smothers, Lincoln Pawn, indicated that they would need a 2,000 <br />square foot relocation space. He f'urther indicated that he would prefer to <br />own his space rather than lease. <br />Fahey suggested that the City could control the north site and relocate the <br />existing businesses in that area.
