It is anticipated that <br />the City will be ready for the ISO inspection in about a yev~. The <br />inspections are scheduled at ISO's discretion. <br />Boss reported that trucl< 74l has been replaced with a pick-up truck. <br />Charitable gambling tunds plid for the new pick-up truck in addition to <br />the $8,000 which the Fire Department received fi~om the sale of a van. <br />Boss reviewed the 1998 officer listing 1s weil as the summary statistical <br />information on fire calls received through November 30, 1997. <br />Boss further reported that tlie Department is working on some by-law <br />amendments dealing with percentlge of calls fire fighters must respond to <br />as well as the Cypes of training whicl~ must be completed within the first <br />year of service. <br />Boss reported that a committee is being formed to study and make a <br />recommendation on the purchase of an 111-purpose truck that would be <br />used durin~ heavy rescue efiforts and as ~t ca~imand post. Tliis truck <br />would replace a 1974 picl<-up trucl<. Estimated cost of tl~e truck is <br />$214,000. Boss reported that the Deplrtment estimates it would be able to <br />contribute $50,000 from charitabie gambling funds toward the cost ofthe <br />truck and requested that as part of tl~e '1999 B~~dget process the City <br />consider allocating iunds from the ( 0% Fund and/or the Capital <br />Improvement F~ind. Boss reporCed that the Deplrtment would like a <br />commitment fi~om Yhe City before year-end so thlt the committee can <br />be~in worl< on ti~is issue. Council discussed vario~is funding sources for <br />this purcl~ase whicli included the 10% Fund, the Capitll Improvement <br />Fund, as well as doil~rs t'rom the debt levy reduction for the year 2000. <br />The Council instr~~cted the CiCy Administr2tor to malce a recommendation <br />on this issue as ~art of ti~e 1999 Bud~et p~~ocess. <br />Boss reported that there is $'12,500 in the City's Capital Improvement <br />Buds3et for purehase of a Cairns helmet. Total cost is estimated at <br />$25,000. The Fire Department h1s solicited 1oc11 businesses for funds to <br />be used toward this purdtase. To dlte $500 has been committed, and the <br />Department is hoping for additional commitments. Boss indicated that <br />given tlie fund r2ising efforts the Historicll Society is malcin~, it may be <br />that the Fire Departmenf will want to proceed wiYh the purchase of the <br />helmet usin~ chariY~ble ~~mbling f~inds.
