1VIINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />AUGUST 12, 1998 <br />PURCHAS~ The City Administr~tor report~ed t~h~t the property owner of 2600 Rice <br />AGR~~MGNT - Street has accepted another ofier {or fhe purchase of the property. <br />2600 RIC~ STR. Thecefore, no ~ction is required on the City's purch~se agreement for this <br />site. <br />LaV11Ie asl<ed if the CiYy would Ue wise to pllce a moratorium or some <br />restrictions on this pro~erty given the need to redevelop the area. LaValle <br />pointed out that this area could be redeveloped as a relocation site some of <br />the existing businesses on Rice Street. <br />Fahey su~~ested that the City discuss with The ~urcl~aser his/l~er plans for <br />2600 Rice Sfreet. Fahey noted th~t this parcel wouid have to be combined <br />with others Co mal<e it ~ more vi~ble for redevelopment. <br />Pedersen su~gested that~ t~l~e City needs to I<eep its options o~en with <br />re~ard to 2600 Rice Street. <br />Fahey asl<ed if a closed session should be called to discuss the Klein <br />prope~rty. The City Attorney poinCed out that the City is presently <br />involved i~~ liti~at~ion involving the Klein property, therefore, ~t closed <br />session would be appropriate to disc~iss that matter. <br />Council discussed t~he previous moratorium Chat was placed on properties <br />alon~ Rice Street as parf o~f tlle City's st~udy o1'retleveiopment options for <br />tl~is area. <br />Witl~ regard to 2600 Rice Street, the City AtCOrney pointed ouY that a~~y <br />redevelopment oPChis site by the new owner wi(I be subject to tl~e City's <br />Zonin~ Code. However, if the City is considering studyi~~g the 1rea, a <br />moratorium would be a~propriate. <br />Fahey requesCed the City Administrator obtain more inform~ltion about the <br />sale of 2G00 Rice Strcc;t as ~,vell as the ne~v purchasei's pl~ns for the <br />}~roperty. Fahey su~~ested Chat the full Council could discuss this maCCer <br />at its nexC meetin~. <br />LaValle su~gested t~hat 2600 Rice Street will need to be combined wiTh the <br />two properties to the north in order to mal<e redevelopment of these three <br />sites vi~ble. <br />P1hey suggested that ihe Council call for 1 closed session to discuss how <br />Che Klein litieation imp~ets Yhis situ~tion. <br />Mr. Fahcy introduced the following resolutiou an<t moved its adoption: <br />
