The survey asl<ed how residents felt about the <br />rent~ing or leasing of City b~llfields to ouYSide groups which r~in <br />Cournaments for ~ prol~it. Seventy-ei~ht percent of respondents replied that <br />they eitf~er sCrongly 1'~avorecl or somewh~t f~voretl this anan~ement. <br />Supporters were t~l~en asi<ed if they would sYill flvor it if ~Icoholic <br />bever~ges wouid be solcl aY the tournament, 46% o{'respondents replied <br />thlt they would favor, while 49% indiclted that they would be opposed. <br />Sc~Ize further pointed out that Canadi~n llays and LCRA conduct <br />tournaments at which alcohol is served. While she was not o~~osed to the <br />contimi~~Cion of this pr~etice, Scal~e intlicated th~t based ou the results of <br />the sw'vey, she did noC support the s~le of alc~hol at toin'naments ~ut o^ <br />by ouCSide g~'o~ips. <br />Morel~in and ~ahey indicaCed that the survey res~ilts indicate that 50% of <br />the respundents clo not support the sale of alcohol, while 46% woidcl still <br />favor Cournaments even if aicohol is served. <br />Sc~lze dis~greed ~,vith the 50% tigure and pointed out that the questioi~ <br />~bouY ~Icohol w~s posed to the 78% who ttivorecl renttil of ball6elds for <br />tournaments. OPthat 7b%, 49%opposed tournaments where ~Icohol was <br />servetl and 46% favoretl tournaments even if alcoho( was served. <br />Theretore, it w~s Sc~lze's contention that only 36% of residents supported <br />the rental ot ball Fieltl Eacilities for tournaments if alcol~ol w1s being <br />served. <br />LaV~~iile pointed ouf that~ Che CiYy parl< syst~em was developed for the <br />resi~lents ~f Little Canatla. Therefore, he questioned the leasing of these <br />1'acilities for outside Yournaments. <br />Fal~ey disa~reecl with Scalze's ~n~lysis th~t oniy 36% of residents <br />s~ipported the renral of'~ball field f'acilities for Cournaments if aleohol was <br />bein~ served, flnd ~~ain stated that the percent~age w1s closer to 50%. <br />Sc~lze disa~reed ~~vith 1=ahey's 50% Pigure, anci ~gain explained her <br />analysis of the City survey results. <br />~~hey indicatcd that he clid not have ~ problem with s~llowin~ 1lcohol to be <br />sold at tourn~ments, pointing uut that this w~ts 1 policy iss~ie for tl~e <br />Council to tlecide. l=~~hey pointed out that LCR~ and C<u~adian Days sell <br />alcohol at tournamei~ts, and there have been no signilicant problems as a <br />result. <br />7 <br />
