The founders of this
foundation wanted to make clear the means to bettering the public will be through
our industry. The gift of the foundation will be to help those who are struggling to
become more successful by providing them with funds and educational opportunities
they would otherwise not have access to. This will include one-on-one coaching, gifts,
grants and loans. This is truly a benevolent foundation that will carry all our legacies
into the future, explains John Ward.
The founders also identified a broad spectrum of need they intend to address that will
help improve the public through our industry.
The initial focus and distribution of the foundation's first funds will be in the area of
business and technical scholarships. The founders identified five scholastic goals they
would consider scholarships for. They are-
• Associate college degree
• Assistance with obtaining a trade school education
• Financial help for an individual who wants to pursue a plumbing, HVAC or
electrical trade certification
• Undergraduate college degree (such as; Business Administration, Mechanical &
Electrical Engineering)
• Post college graduate degree (such as a MBA degree)
The founders also considered who would be applying for these scholarships. They
decided the foundation would favor applications from individuals who are within the
trades and high school seniors who were looking for opportunities to get into our
industry. The application process for foundation scholarships is now in development.
To help with the development and execution of the foundation's plan to roll out a
series of scholarships, they have asked several prominent figures of our industry to
serve on the foundation's first scholarship committee. They are-
• Frank Blau-committee chairperson
• Tom Kelly of Drucks Plumbing & Heating, Inc.
Kelly is one of the founding members of Nexstar
• Brad Martin of Scottco Service Company
• Ellen Rohr. Ellen is a former Nexstar trainer
• Jim Olsztynski. ]im is the editorial director of
http://nexstarfoundation.org/Purpose/Purpose.htm 7/16/2008
