MINUTI?S PLANNING COMMISSION AUGUST 13, 2009 proposed on the Rice Street fagade is 34 square feet rather than the 44 square feet indicated in the Plainrer's report. Gilbertson indicated that they are requesting that the signage plan as submitted be approved. That plan is over the 90 square feet of signage allowed. Tn the event there is no support for that request, Gilbertson submitted a modified signage plan that meets the 90 square footage limitation. Duray than]ced Gilbertson for the modified signage plan, and indicated that he could not support signage over the 90 square feet. He also appreciated the modification to the pylon making it more in keeping wit]i the CVS signage. Gilbertson indicated that the building is a prototype const7•ucted in the mid 1980's, and Valvoline is trying to update their image through improved signage. The City Planner acknowledged that the dimensions in the report should be changed to a 40-foot building frontage resulting in 90 square feet of signage allowed, as well as 34 feet of signage on the Rice Street elevation. The Planner indicated that t9ie revised signage plan submitted this evening alters the proposed signage on the front and side walls thus meeting City Code requirements. The Planner noted that his report recommends an upgrade of the structure part of the freestanding sign. He noted that Valvoline is proposing those upgrades. The base of the freestanding sign will be rock-fact block matching the existing building. Gilbertson reviewed in detail the changes that were made to the wall signage and the freestanding sign bringing the proposed signage into compliance. Duray noted that the Valvoline freestanding sign will now correspond with the CVS signage. The Plamrer pointed out that the CVS sign structure is 1;FIS stucco with brick matching the CVS building, while the Valvoline sign will be rock-face block matching the Valvoline building. Gilbertson again requested that the original sign plan be approved, but indicated that he realized the need to meet City Code requirements. Duray again indicated his support for compliance with the Code, noting that other businesses in The City have had to comply with signage requirements. Duray felt that the Valvoline signage would be a great addition for the area and brought some coordination with CVS Pharmacy. Fischer asked about the message board on the freestanding sign. Gilbertson reported that the freestanding sign will be inten~ally illuminated, including the reader board. There will be four lines of message space on the board, and it is a manual message board. -3-
