MINUTES

Parks & Recreation Commission
September 3, 2009
THUNDER BAY PARK NEIGHBORHOOD MEETING
Sanders suggested that the neighborhood meeting to discuss the Concept Plan # 1 be
incorporated with either the October or November Park & Recreation Commission meeting.
The consensus was to have Morelan determine which month would work the best. Sanders
stated the process would be to hold the neighborhood meeting and then send the
recommendations to the City Council for the funding aP the project. Sanders thought since
the concept plan was not requiring a major renovation of the park that about twelve residents
would probably attend the meeting.
It was questioned as to who would be do the inviting of the residents Prom the Thunder Bay
Park neighborhood. Sanders stated that the city would probably be doing the mailing to the
residents surrounding the park and make a public announcement about the meeting. Maida
suggested that the group who initiated the addition of the basketball court be included in the
meeting invitations.
N012TH/SOUTH TRAIL CONNECTION
Sanders reported they had meetings on the trail connection with two school districts. The
Roseville urea School District seemed very positive about the trail connection and are
willing to help in any way they can assist. Progress has also been made with Tri-District,
located west of the Waldorf School.
Sanders stated that we renewed the agreement with the National Park Service for them to
continue to provide assistance with the trail connection.
One of the proposals to continue the North/South Trail Connection is to go through either on
the west side of the railroad tracks or continue on the east side of the railroad tracks on the
St. Jude and city properties. The land to the west of the railroad tracks incorporates the
Comforts of Home property and some State of Minnesota property with a pond. It continues
to the Highway 36right-of--way and currently has a very nice wooded hill, making it an
excellent choice for the trail comrection. Sanders stated the property on the west side of the
tracks is more scenic, but either option would be good.
Maida asked if the developer of Comforts of I-Iome would be making a contribution of land
or park fees to the city. Sanders stated the City Attorney is currently looking into this.
OPTIONS FOR RECOGNITION OF LCRA
