As you know, the Parks
and Recreation Commission has recommended to replacement the worn wooden play
structures with a new metal/plastic structure. Along with that, they are recommending
adding a half basketball court to the site along with adding some additional trails in that
immediate area to improve pedestrian traffic flow and access.
Cost estimates are:
• Play area - $50 000
• I Ialf Basketball Court - $20,000
• Additional Trails - 5 000
$75,000
I have approached the Little Canada Recreation Association (LCRA) for funding
assistance for the project. Although they have not taken any formal action on my request,
they gave me a strong indication that they would be interested in funding half of the total
project if the City decides to approve the conshuction and fund the balance. The capital
improvement budget currently lists $75,000 for this project.
I believe this is a great opportunity for the City to complete this project at approximately
one half of the total cost. I join the Parks and Recreation Commission in recommending
council approval of the necessary funding for the project ,contingent upon LCRA sharing
the cost.
7
