To that end, a number of cities, working through the
City of Roseville, have been collaborating in providing a fiber system to connect various
public building and communities. An opportunity has now arisen to see grant funding to
assist in this build-out through American Fiber Systems (AFS) whereby grant funding
covers 70% of the project costs and AFS picks up the remaining 30% in exchange for
public sponsorship and suppol•t of the application. (See Roseville Staff Memo attached
for detailed description of this situatiolt.)
Attached is a resolution of support for this opportunity. The resolution will also enable
us to support a Ramsey CountylSt. Paul initiative that is applying for the same funding, if
deemed appropriate. Staff believes we should take our cue from Roseville staff regarding
the degree of support given their expertise in this area. '1 here is some concern about
supporting a competing application while also being aware that some suburban benefit
would still result if that application were funded.
Staff recommends adoption of the proposed resolution of support as presented.
1
