MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
FEBRUARY 23, 2011
development is the City is somewhat limited, and felt questions about
trail /sidewalk usage should be included in the survey. Leatherman
suggested that the questions about sidewalks /trails be somewhat general in
nature, with more specificity about the Little Canada Road streetscape.
The Administrator suggested that a question be added about the
replacement of playground equipment as there is the feeling that this
equipment becomes dated and it should be changed out to maintain
interest.
McGraw pointed out the pending legislation relative to public notices, and
suggested some questions about how residents prefer to obtain
information. There was discussion about the issue of social media and
whether or not there is interest in the City's utilization of Facebook,
Twitter, etc. Leatherman suggested some questions relative to
communications and expansion into social media.
At this point there was discussion on the concept of conducting a business
focus group to gauge the feelings of the business community. Leatherman
explained the process, and indicated that these types of focus groups
provide information that is qualitative, but not quantitative. Therefore, the
opinions of the specific focus group cannot be taken as the opinions of the
business community. Leatherman stated that focus groups are generally
used to get information about a specific topic. Based on Leatherman's
explanation, it was the consensus of the Council that conducting a
business focus group would not provide the City with the type of
information it would be seeking.
Leatherman indicated that he would provide the City Administrator
sample listings of services that could be addressed in the survey. Once the
Council has reviewed and modified that listing, he would put together a
draft survey for the Council's review and comment.
There being no other business, the workshop meeting was adjourned at
7:30 p.m.
Att= 2
4
Rick Mbrtfour, Ac Mayor
J' anson, City Administrator
