artmlic g. -ASSOWITZS
Memo
TO: Honorable Mayor & City Council Members
FROM: Lee Elfering, City Engineer
DATE: May 19, 2011
RE: Farmers Market
The Little Canada Parks and Recreation Department is proposing a farmer's market
within the Saxon Bowling Alley parking lot. The original proposal located the farmer's
market booths in the very northeast corner of the lot in close proximity to the northern
most parking lot entrance off of Market Place Drive. The Planning Commission
expressed possible concerns in regards to traffic access and flow and requested a
review of the layout.
The location of the farmer's market in the northeast corner of the lot would have required
the closing of the northern most driveway. We have reviewed the original layout with the
Park and Recreation director and the location of the farmer's market booths have been
modified. The market is now proposed farther to the west and along the north end of the
parking lot as shown on the attached exhibit. This layout will provide sufficient room to
allow both entrances to Market Place Drive to be utilized along with the access to Little
Canada Road. The north end of the market will be along the edge of the parking lot and
the south end will be delineated with the booth owner's vehicles. We would recommend
the use of barricades, gates, and caution tape to differentiate the east and west ends of
the market from the remainder of the lot.
If you have any questions concerning this information, please call me at (763) 780 -0450.
10062 Flanders Court NE — Blaine, MN 55449 — Ph: (763) 780-0450 Fax (763) 780-0452
Memo-051911 -CC (Farmers Market)
8
ANUE'ION
