MINUTES CITY COUNCIL APRIL 13, 2011 Fahey and Boss agreed there was a safety issue for walkers on County Drive. Blesener suggested that the City Engineer to his analysis and put together a cost. A decision would then be made when that information is available. LITTLE Sanders reported that work has begun on planning for the addition of CANADA sidewalks and streetscape improvements along Little Canada Road from ROAD Lakeshore /County Road C to Edgerton Street LAHORE Sanders reported that the Commission receives a lot of comments about ROAD the need for a safer walking environment on LaBore Road. Sanders stated that the Commission would continue to look at this area considering either wider shoulders or an off - street trail. CENTERVILLE Sanders pointed out the need for a good pedestrian connection between ROAD Spooner and Pioneer Parks. He noted that Centerville Road would be the logical connection and the fact that the road is in poor condition. The City Administrator reported that Centerville Road keeps sliding back on the County's 5 -year plan, and is not even on that plan at this time. NORTHEAST Sanders suggested that as additional development occurs in the northeast WOODLAND/ area of the City, that the City preserve as much of the natural area as WETLAND possible in order to develop a natural trail connection through this area. CONNECTION The City Administrator noted that the City has some easements through this area. CANADIAN Sanders reported that the Canadian Days Committee has requested DAYS a regarding of some of the open space in Spooner Park in order to provide REQUEST a larger level area for carnival set -up. Sanders reported that the Commission wants to preserve the scenic view from the shelter area through the park. The Commission will meet on -site prior to their next meeting to determine if that view can be preserved while meeting Canadian Days' objectives. Sanders also suggested that the lay -out for the Canadian Days Celebration should be reviewed to determine if there are efficiencies that can be achieved. McGraw asked if the Parks Commission would level this area of the park without the Canadian Days request. The Director replied that it would not. McGraw asked if the work would enhance the park for citizen use outside of Canadian Days. The Director replied that it would not, and this is why the Commission is moving cautiously. There is no desire to do anything that will detract from the park. It was pointed out that if any work proceeds, it would be completed for 2012 Canadian Days. 4 12
