The I -P District was not changed with this amendment, but the City has now been
petitioned for a CUP incorporating a shipping container in that district.
Because the total amount of outdoor storage is significantly limited in the 1 -P District, the
7,500 square foot of lot area standard is not applicable. To create a standard for
shipping container size ratio that is similar in impact to the 1 -1 District, the 1 -P District
could incorporate the above restrictions, but with item c. amended to state that only one
shipping container could be used per 15,000 square feet of lot area, or to comply with
other area requirements for outdoor storage in the I -P district, whichever is more
restrictive. Current I -P storage maximums are 10% of the lot area, or 25% of the
building area, whichever is less. A full -size shipping container is 8 feet by 40 feet (320
square feet).
Summary and Recommendation
The proposed amendment would add maintenance requirements for shipping
containers, while creating a parallel standard for total amount of such containers
between the 1 -1 and I -P districts. Planning staff recommends the amendment as
discussed in this report.
Pc: Kathy Glanzer
Steve Westerhaus
Lee Elfering
3
