MINUTES OF THE WORKSHOP MEETING <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />LITTLE CANADA, MINNESOTA <br />OCTOBER 12, 2011 <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a workshop meeting of the City <br />Council of Little Canada, Minnesota was convened on the 12th day of <br />October, 2011 in the Council Chambers of the City Center located at 515 <br />Little Canada Road in said City. <br />Mayor Bill Blesener called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and the <br />following members of the City Council were present at roll call: <br />CITY COUNCIL: Mayor Mr. Bill Blesener <br />Council Member Ms. Shelly Boss <br />Council Member Mr. John Keis <br />Council Member Mr. Mike McGraw <br />Council Member Mr. Rick Montour <br />ALSO PRESENT: City Administrator Mr. Joel R. Hanson <br />Public Works Supt. Mr. Bill Dircks <br />City Clerk Ms. Kathy Glanzer <br />INFORMATION The purpose of tonight's workshop meeting is to conduct an <br />UPDATE information update with the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department and <br />City staff'. <br />RAMSEY Ramsey County Sheriff Matt Bostrom introduced himself to the Council <br />COUNTY and presented information on his educational and professional <br />SHERIFF background. Bostrom reported that it is his intention to meet with the <br />REPORT Council on an annual basis to provide an update on the Sheriff's <br />Department. <br />Bostrom reported that he has been in office a little over 9 months. He <br />informed the Council that in his view the future of public safety is at a <br />regional level and the "going it alone" mentality doesn't work. Bostrom <br />reported that the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department will be effective in <br />the roles of lead agency, partner agency, and support agency when each is <br />appropriate. He noted that the Sheriff's Department's responsibilities for <br />the County are to deliver patrol service for communities without a police <br />department, court security, civil tasks (warrants, etc.), detention service, <br />and patrol waterways that are non -DNR. The Sheriff's Department also <br />works across the County with other police departments. Bostrom <br />indicated that the Sheriff's Department's philosophy is to cooperate with <br />other law enforcement agencies and never compete with them. Bostrom <br />also reported that the Department will be transparent and accountable from <br />a budget standpoint. He indicated that he is working on improving staff <br />
