Ilanson
WWW ci.liG:le- Canada.nm.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Blesener and Members of the City Council
FROM: Kathy Glanzer, City Clerk
DATE: May 8, 2008
RE: Call for Public Hearing
Liquor License Renewals — Bangkok Avenue
Since February, there have been at (east three incidents at Bangkok Avenue of a serious
nature. The City Administrator, Ramsey County Sheriff's Department, and I met with
the owner of Bangkok Avenue on Tuesday, May 6th, to discuss our concerns. These
concerns primarily have to do with security staffing, willingness to contact the Sheriffs
Department when a problem occurs, issues related to the way beer is served as well as
over - serving, number of wait staff, server's training for wait staff, etc.
The owner of Bangkok Avenue will be submitting a letter to the City outlining the
changes he intends to make to address the concerns discussed. We will have this report
prior to the May 28th Council meeting at which the renewal of liquor licenses will be
considered.
Given the concerns with this business, it is staffs recommendation that a Public I- Iearing
be called to consider the renewal of the Bangkok Avenue liquor and entertainment
licenses. The hearing would be held at the May 28th meeting independent of the other
liquor license renewals.
