£IfCRING ASSOCIATES <br />May 7, 2008 <br />File No. 120102E -0060 <br />Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />City of Little Canada <br />515 Little Canada Road East <br />Little Canada, MN 55117 -1633 <br />SUBJECT: SW Trunk Watermain Improvements Project <br />Recommendation of Award <br />Dear Mayor and Council Members: <br />if7pl tlUFI!! <br />Bids were opened for the above referenced project at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday April 30, 2007 <br />in accordance with the Advertisement for Bids. The project includes the extension of 12 -inch <br />watermain along County Road B2, through the St. Jude property, and along Viking Drive. An 8- <br />inch watermain will be installed to Stephanie Court and a sanitary sewer service is also being <br />repaired on Edgerton Street. Five (5) bids were received from the following companies in order <br />from low to high: <br />Corporation Base Bid <br />Redstone Construction $638,321.19 <br />Minger Construction, Inc. $707,399.85 <br />Northdale Construction $733,835.02 <br />Burschville Construction, Inc. $760,007.33 <br />St. Paul Utilities, Inc. $798,800.00 <br />The engineer's estimate completed at the end of plan and specification preparation estimated <br />the construction cost at $830,000.00. Based on the bids received, Redstone Construction is the <br />low bidder. The low bid received, based on the engineer's estimate, appears to be highly <br />competitive and the bids have been reviewed for errors and /or omissions. Redstone <br />Construction has not completed work in the City of Little Canada in the past; however they have <br />been completing municipal projects for nearly 30 years. We have checked with City <br />representatives from a recent project completed by Redstone and have found them to be a <br />responsive and responsible bidder. <br />Based on the bids received and the results of the reference check, we would recommend that <br />the City award the SW Trunk Watermain Improvements project to Redstone Construction, Inc. <br />in the amount of $638,321.19.
