MINUTES <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />May 28, 2008 <br />Avenue, to include written statements from restaurant staff <br />on incidents that they witnessed. <br />Robert Thao, Bangkok Avenue, reported that he has been in business for a <br />little over a year and has had a few problems since two local clubs have <br />closed. The results of the club closings are that younger people have been <br />coming to Bangkok Avenue. Thao reported that he has called the <br />Sheriff's Department for the two or three incidents which have occurred. <br />f-le also reported that he recently hired an off -duty deputy to provide <br />security. Thao reported that his method of serving beer is advantageous to <br />serving a group of people. He recently checked on the possibility of <br />getting beer in plastic bottles, but he does not think these are available. <br />Thao reported that he will be hiring additional people to help him serve as <br />well as provide security. He will have two off -duty deputies on site as <br />well as three inside security personnel. Thao did not think there would be <br />any more problems at Bangkok Avenue, and that he will be ready to <br />address problems if they occur. Ile also indicated that he will not allow <br />people into his restaurant if he knows they will cause problems. Thao <br />pointed out that some of the incidents have occurred in the parking lot and <br />not within the building. <br />Blesener asked if Than was operating a restaurant or a bar. He noted the <br />Sheriff's report that indicated little evidence of food. "Thao reported that <br />he operates a restaurant and estimated his sales at 60% food and 40% <br />alcohol. Thao reported that he has a 6 -yard dumpster for food waste and a <br />15 -yard dumpster for bottles. <br />Keis noted the difficulties in controlling the serving of alcohol when it is <br />served by the case. Thao reported that underaged individuals leave the <br />restaurant by 8:00 p.m., unless there is a special occasion banquet held at <br />the restaurant. Thao reported that ID's are checked at the door. <br />Keis noted that he is responsible for his business, both inside the building <br />as well as outside. Thao reported that he has hired two off -duty deputies <br />for security on Friday and Saturday evenings. <br />Blesener asked the hours of operation during the week for Bangkok <br />Avenue. Thao reported that Mondays through Thursdays he is open from <br />11 a.m. to 7 p.m. unless there is a special event. <br />McGraw asked if it were true that when problems occurred at Bangkok <br />Avenue both in the building and in the parking lot there was no on -staff <br />security, and that security has since been added. Thao reported that he did <br />have a security person, but that was not enough. He has since added the <br />two off -duty deputies.
