Population Growth byAge Group: 2000
Source: Minnesota State Demographer
3.30%
® Under 18
019 -39
0 40 -59
❑ 60 -64
o 65 -69
❑ 70 -79
®80+
As illustrated above, the City of Little Canada's largest age group in 1990 was the labor force
(ages 19 -39), representing 34.8 percent of the population. In 2000 this age group (ages 19 -39)
was again the City's largest, accounting for 32 percent of the total population. It is expected that
the retired age group will become the fastest growing segment of the population in the coming
decade. Changes in the demographics of the City and surrounding area in that regard will have
significant planning implications for the future.
Employment
The following tables display employment growth, occupations and travel time to work for the
City's working population, or those over age 25. Employment growth estimates and forecasts
were determined by the Metropolitan Council. Travel time and occupation data is taken from the
1990 and 2000 Census, as well as the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic
Development.
Employment Growth
2000 to 2030
2000
2010
2020
2030
% Change
'00-'30
Little Canada
5,960
7,000
7,550
7,950
33.3%
Ramsey County
333,305
372,630
405,030
430,090
29.0%
Source: Metropolitan Council
3
