Only eight (8) remain for the
ten (10) dais seats, and of these, two (2) function but are physically damaged, and
one (1) is noticeably noisy. I suggest purchasing twelve (12) new microphones to
have two (2) spares.
Three different models of lavalier microphone were bid. Instead of the current
omnidirectional design, which picks up sound from all directions, a cardiod
pickup pattern was specified. This reduces noise from below, such as paper
handling and pen clicking.
▪ Shure MX185BP ($162 each, recommended)
Updated but similar to the existing microphones. The multi -part design
allows for replacement of broken wires without the need to replace the
entire microphone. This is the least expensive option, but should be
improved sound quality over present.
• Sony ECM66B ($338 each)
The same microphone CTV uses in their studio. It allows for battery
operation, which is a nice feature, but not necessary for use in the
council chamber.
• Sennheiser MKE104S /K6 Combo ($483 each)
This microphone is physically smaller, so it would be less noticeable
on camera. It also allows for battery operation.
