MINUTES <br />PLANNING COMMISSION <br />APRIL 12, 2007 <br />Mr. Duray recommended approval of the Conditional Use Permit for Hom <br />Furniture Comprehensive Sign Plan subject to compliance with the <br />recommendations of the City Planner as outlined in his April 9, 2007 report. <br />Motion seconded by Socha. <br />Motion carried 6 — 0. <br />Mr. Duray recommended denial of the Variance from the Sign Code related <br />to freestanding sign height for Hom Furniture based on the recommendation <br />of the City Planner as outlined in his April 9, 2007 report and noting Hom <br />Furniture's withdrawal of this variance request given they will maintain the <br />existing pylon sign which is grandfathered in in its current location. <br />Motion seconded by Socha. <br />Motion carried 6 — 0. <br />PUD Pam Dokken, Oops Theater, appeared before the Commission requesting <br />PERMIT — approval of a Planned Unit Development Permit to operate a dinner <br />2900 RICE theater/banquet facility in the Market Place Shopping Center. Dokken <br />STREET — reported that the Oops Theater has been in existence since 1999 in North <br />OOPS St. Paul and is looking to relocate to the Market Place Shopping Center as <br />THEATER their current location is being redeveloped. Dokken reported that the Oops <br />Theater conducts family- friendly performances. Dokken reported that they <br />are exciting about locating in the Market Place Shopping Center and would <br />like to stay there long -term. <br />Duray felt the Oops Theater would be a great addition to the City. <br />Dokken described the layout of the interior space. She noted that the Little <br />Venetian Inn would be catering the food and liquor at theater performances. <br />She also indicated that the space would be available for meetings and other <br />events. <br />Duray asked about signage. Tim McLaughlin, building manager, reported <br />that signage would comply with the City's code requirements. He noted <br />that the Oops Theater would occupy the space of the former pool hall. <br />McLaughlin reported that initially there will not be much money put into <br />interior improvements. If the theater proves to be successful, improvements <br />will be made at that time. <br />Duray asked for an explanation of how the concept would work. Dokken <br />described the interior layout, how food and beverages would be served, and <br />- 13 - <br />
