Joel Hanson From: Nielson, Scott [scott.nelson @CO.RAMSEY.MN.US] Sent: Monday, April 30, 2007 7:20 PM To: Joel Hanson Subject: Stop Signs Joel, On 4/19/07 at approx 1730 hrs, the LC squad took a report of a pretty severe property damage accident at the intersection of Valento Ln & Allen Ave. I was asked by the district squad to respond to that location and evaluate the intersection as well as two others. Residents in the area were expressing concerns with the intersections in that area. My findings are as follows: Valento Ln & Allen Ave Currently Valento Ln has Yield signs for both North & South bound traffic at Allen Ave. Traffic traveling S/B on Valento Ln cannot see the W/B traffic on Allen Ave due to several large pine trees on the NE corner. I feel that the obstruction along with the yield signs were the major contributing factors in the crash. Tim & I believe that yield signs really have no place on most residential roads and recommend that both yield signs at Valento Ln & Allen Ave be replaced with STOP signs. Thunder Bay & Allen Ave I also looked at this intersection and found it to be rather strange. There are yield signs facing the East & West bound traffic on Allen Ave even though Thunder Bay to the south is a cul -de -sac. I feel that it would be better served if these signs were removed altogether and STOP signs placed on Thunder Bay for the North & South bound traffic at Allen Ave. This would also keep it consistent with Valento Ln & Allen Ave. Ontario Rd & Allen Ave Ontario Rd also has yield signs for the North & South bound traffic at Allen Ave. These signs should be replaced with STOP signs as well. Stop signs at these locations should help reduce the potential for future accidents or close calls in this area. Feel free to contact me with any further questions?
