MAYOR
Bill Blesener
COUNCIL
Jim LaValle
Rick Montour
Barbara Allan
John Keis
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600 ADMINISTRATOR
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048 Joel R. Hanson
www.ci.little-canada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Blesener and Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: January 19, 2007
RE: Planning Commission Vacancy
With the pending appointment of Mike McGraw to the City Council at our meeting of the
200 a vacancy will be created on the Planning Commission. Mike's term on the
Planning Commission expires on December 31, 2008.
There are a few options available to us to fill this vacancy. They are:
• Advertise this vacancy as has been done in the past.
• Given that we recently advertised, consider the previous applicants for this
opening. (The Planning Commission Chair is comfortable with this approach.)
• Related to the previous option would be to add Chuck Pechmann into the previous
applicants being considered for this opening given the interest he expressed
during the Council interview process.
• The Council could appoint someone without any process.
Staff would like your direction as to how to proceed. The main variable is timing. If we
are comfortable with a vacancy at February's, then we would have ample time to
advertise the opening. If you feel there is urgency to fill the seat for February's meeting,
then you would need to appoint Wednesday night or at a special meeting to occur the
week of January 29`h. (Note: Our first meeting in February is held after the Planning
Commission would hold their meeting as the month begins on a Thursday.)
