Hanson <br />Shelly Rueckert <br />The purpose of this evening's workshop with the Little Canada Fire <br />Department is to long term service needs /options to be provided by <br />the Department. <br />The Fire Chief reported that currently the Fire Department allocates 50% of its <br />net earnings from charitable gambling for fire truck replacement. There is <br />currently $30,000 in this fund which was started January 1, 2011. It is the <br />intention of the Fire Department to continue this practice. The fund will be <br />maintained by the Fire Department. <br />The Department reported that the City of Vadnais Heights amended its <br />ordinance in 2001 enabling their fire department to recover the cost of <br />responding to vehicle fires on the freeway. The Department bills one hour <br />minimum at a rate of $350 /hour. The owner of the vehicle is able to submit the <br />cost of the call to their insurance company. This practice has generated about <br />$6,000 per year for Vadnais Heights, and the city has been able to collect in <br />about 70% of cases. <br />
