MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
DECEMBER 21, 2011
FINANCE
DIRECTOR
TRANSITION
PLAN
PLANNING
COMMISSION
VACANCIES
APPOINTMENTS
PARK
COMMISSION
VACANCIES
APPOINTMENTS
The City Administrator reported that Shelly Rueckert has resigned as the
City's Finance Director to take a position with the City of St. Anthony right
after the first of the year. The City Administrator indicated that the Finance
Director has done an excellent job for the City and she will be missed. The
Mayor agreed that the Finance Director has done a great job for the City and
echoed the Administrator's comments that she will be missed. The Director
stated that she enjoyed her time with Little Canada and thanked the City for the
opportunity and time spent here.
The Administrator reported that he is planning to advertise the Finance Director
position after the holidays, and is exploring options for the transition process.
The current Finance Director will assist the City with some tasks, i.e. finalizing
2011 audit papers. The Administrator reported that he will keep the Council
informed about the transition process.
The City Administrator reported that the terms of office on the Planning
Commission for Scott Barraclough, Tom Fischer, and Chuck Pechmann expire
on December 31, 2011. These vacancies have been advertised and the three
incumbents have applied for reappointment. Additionally, applications were
received from Gilbert Coleman, Jennifer Maleitzke, Nick Schwalbach, and Jon
Stone. The Administrator reported that the new applicants were interviewed by
the Vice Chair of the Commission and himself, except for Nick Schwalbach
who was interviewed last year. The Administrator felt that all were very well
qualified and would do a good job on the Commission. however, given Jennifer
Maleitzke's background, he and the Vice Chair felt she was the most qualified
of the new applicants.
By ballot of the Council, Scott Barraclough, Tom Fischer, and Jennifer
Maleitzke were appointed to three -year terms on the Planning Commission
commencing January 1, 2012.
The City Administrator reported that the terms of office on the Parks &
Recreation Commission for Dan Slain and Patti Sullivan expire on December
31, 2011. These vacancies have been advertised and the two incumbents have
applied for reappointment. Additionally, applications were received from
Ronald Horwath and Rita Mills. The Administrator reported that the Chair of
the commission and the Parks & Recreation Director interviewed Rita Mills.
Ron Horwath was interviewed last year. It was their recommendation that the
two incumbents be reappointed, while noting that the new applicants were well
qualified to serve on the Commission.
14
