ce
oi (°aizata
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada. MN 55117 -1600
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048
www.ci.little- canada.rnn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Blesener and Members of the City Council
FROM: Kathy Glanzer, City Clerk
DATE: January 5, 2012
RE: 2012 Legal Newspaper Designation
MAYOR
Bill Blesener
COUNCIL
Rick Montour
John Kels
Michael McGraw
Shelly Boss
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Manson
The City has received a quote from Lillie Suburban Newspapers for 2012 Legal Newspaper
designation. No other quotes were received. Below is a comparison of this quote with 2010 rates:
2011 2012
Lillie Lillie
Suburban Suburban
Floor Agendas $85 $88
Legal Rate $7.25/In. $7.60/In.
You will note from the quote attached that Lillie Suburban is quoting a cost of $445 per month for
publication of Council meeting minutes. As you will recall, in 2000 the City began mailing Council
meeting minutes to property owners who requested this service in lieu of publishing the minutes.
Currently, there are 7 property owners on the mailing list. Based on calculations put together a few
years ago, the cost for mailing minutes to a few property owners is substantially less than publication
costs. Given the limited number of requests for mailed minutes, as well as their availability on the
City's Web site, staff recommends that the City continue the practice of mailing minutes upon
request rather than publishing them.
It is staff's recommendation that Lillie Suburban Newspapers be designated as the City's legal
newspaper for 2012.
