2012 Street Improvements Page 2
City of Little Canada
EXISTING CONDITIONS
❑ Originally constructed in 1990.
❑ Deterioration more advanced on north /south section
❑ Cracking and Rutting becoming more evident and severe
❑ Settlement of bituminous below the concrete curb
PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS
❑ Full mill & pave north /south section, mill & overlay east/west section
> Mill or remove existing pavement. Grade gravel to establish the crown for
drainage to curb. Pave new bituminous lifts.
> Replace curb and gutter that is severely damaged or holding significant
water.
Some subgrade correction may be necessary in areas of worst deterioration.
❑ Seal coating and crack sealing of the streets was reviewed. Due to current
condition staff is recommending a higher level of maintenance (i.e. mill and pave)
to reestablish good drainage, eliminate existing cracking, and protect the street
subgrade.
❑ Restoration of disturbed boulevard areas can be difficult. Seed vs. Sod.
Examples of good and poor results with both methods on City projects.
> Sod costs more, but provides "instant green" finished look.
> Both seeding and sod require extra watering and care by property owners to
successfully establish. Without care both will fail.
10
