You're worried about moving products throughout the state. You're frustrated with the amount of time you spend on your daily commute. You're not sure that our road and public transit systems are adequate to deal with future demands. Whatever the reason, this is the chance for Minnesota citizens to see their transportation taxes go to the right place - roads and transit. A Benefit to All Minnesotans If approved, this Transportation Amendment will help provide safer, more efficient roads and transit options for all Minnesotans. • Less time stuck in traffic! A dedicated, long -term source of funding for transportation will mean that critical improvements to the state's most congested corridors will be completed sooner and more cost - effectively, making the commutes of thousands of Minnesotans a faster and safer experience. o Support for our rural economy! Being able to safely and efficiently transport goods within Minnesota and throughout the nation is critical for our agriculture producers and rural companies. Our ability to compete and continue to lead the nation in agriculture - related industries relies on a strong transportation system. o Safer travel! More than 600 Minnesotans have been killed in traffic accidents each year over the last decade and more than 70 percent of traffic deaths each year occur on rural roadways. With substantial investments in improvements that can help expand and upgrade roadways, the Minnesota Department of Transportation projects that traffic fatalities can be reduced by 87 percent a year. o More jobs and stronger economy! Investment in a strong transportation system will help Minnesota companies compete in a global marketplace by more efficiently moving products, customers and employees. And, it will create thousands of new jobs. • Cleaner environment! Investments in more efficient roads and transit support ongoing efforts to preserve open space and environmental quality in communities throughout the state. Faster commutes will decrease the amount of air pollution generated by vehicles and transit investments will minimize construction in valuable open spaces. • More travel options! Significant statewide investments in transit and road improvements will provide additional transportation options for growing communities, including Greater Minnesota communities that are looking to upgrade area highways and add transit to their existing transportation system.
