515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048
www.cLlittle-canacla.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Blesener and Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: August 18, 2006
RE: Amendments to Parking Regulations
MAYOR
Bill Blesener
COUNCIL
Jim LaValle
Rick Montour
Barbara Allan
John Reis
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
Based on the discussion at the last meeting, staff surveyed surrounding cities to determine
whether or not they had requirements that vehicles parked on street be moved after a
certain number of hours, i.e. 24, 48, 72 hours. Attached are the results of that survey.
In discussing this issue at a staff level, it was felt such a requirement could prove
challenging from an enforcement perspective since a property owner could move the
vehicle a few feet and still meet the letter of the ordinance. Another option might be to
implement the 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. parking ban on a year round basis. It should be noted,
however, that citizen support evidenced in the community survey was for the narrower
approach of banning overnight parking from November I" through April I.
