515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048
www.ci.little-eanada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
MAYOR
Bill Blesener
COUNCIL
Jim LaValle
Ricic Montour
Barbara Allan
John Keis
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. Hanson
TO: Mayor Blesener & Members of the City Council
FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator
DATE: August 4, 2006
RE: Installation of Additional Emergency Vehicle Preemption (EVP) Devices
Last fall, the Council authorized the installation of additional Emergency Vehicle Preemption
devises pursuant to the recommendations of the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department and the
Little Canada Fire Department. (See Agenda Memo and Minutes from October of 2005.)
This included authorization for cost participation in an additional EVP located for the west
bound 694 off ramp that intersects Rice Street near Vadnais Boulevard.
Attached is correspondence recently received from Dan Soler of Ramsey County Public Works
that includes the construction plans for the installation of the Tier I signals impacting our area.
You will note that are participating in the installation costs with Shoreview at the intersection of
North Owasso Boulevard (Country Drive) and Rice Street. The cost allocation does not include
our participation in the Rice and 694 ramp pursuant to last year's authorization even though I
made the Sheriff's Department and Ramsey County Public Works aware of your decision.
The first action item is to detellrfine if you want me to remind the County of our previous offer.
I believe this would increase our cost by $2,125 (25% of $8,500) in addition to the $4,250 for the
Country Drive intersection.
The second, subject to the decision on the first item, is to formally approve the construction plans
and to approve the Agreement for Maintenance of Traffic Control Signals and Installation No.
2006 -06.
