MINUTES
CITY COUNCIL
MARCH 14, 2012
Keis indicated that he would like to see more analysis relative to this
transaction. 'l'he Administrator reported that he would provide the
Council with more detail at their March 29 °i meeting.
McGraw asked how many buildable lots are possible in this area. The
Administrator reported that there are approximately 15 buildable lots. It
would take the acquisition of two properties abutting LaBore Road to
provide for the access. That new access would also provide development
potential for some properties to the north. The Administrator indicated
that a conservative estimate of home values that could be developed is in
the $400,000 range.
DOCUMENT The City Administrator reviewed the Public Works Superintendent's
SHREDDING report relative to the addition of document shredding during the
electronics - recycling day scheduled for Saturday, April 28, 8:00 a.m. to
Noon. The Administrator noted that the Superintendent has obtained
additional quotes for this service, ranging from $400 to $800 for four
hours of shredding. The low quote is from Twin Cities Shredding. They
indicated that a truck can hold about 2,000 lbs of paper and suggests that
the City put a limit on how much one individual can bring. The
suggestion was for a 2 to 3 box limit at no charge.
McGraw asked if there is a charge for electronics recycling. The
Administrator replied that there was a $5 charge for anything with a
screen. All other electronics (computers, radios, printers, etc.) will be
taken at no charge. The Administrator reported that Retrofit Recycling
received a grant for electronics recycling which greatly reduces what
residents are charged. He also noted that Retrofit Recycling provides this
recycling service at their Little Canada location any time.
Montour suggested that residents be allowed two boxes of materials for
shredding at no cost. The Council discussed box size and the consensus
was that a box would be similar in size to one that copy paper comes in.
Montour suggested a charge of $10 for each box over two. Senior citizens
would be allowed one additional box (three) for shredding at no charge.
The Council discussed encouraging residents to bring in a food donations
that the City will take to a food shelf. The shredding would also be
limited to residents (ID's required), and commercial properties would not
be allowed to participate.
The consensus was to proceed with the addition of shredding to
electronics recycling day, with the low bid provided by Twin Cities
Shredding, under the parameters discussed.
11
