But <br />because federal and state laws have limited <br />efforts to reduce the population and the <br />geese are so mobile, it isn't easy." <br />Kirk La Pierre, owner of Rutherford, NJ- <br />based Al Saver Services, says another <br />issue bird management professionals must <br />contend with is the passionate animal rights <br />activists who watch very closely to ensure <br />geese are being treated humanely — especially when using roundup or <br />egg - addling techniques. <br />"Professionals who decide they want to get into geese management <br />should know they are going to be under constant scrutiny," he explains. <br />Cooper agrees, adding that the constant threat of litigation and the fines <br />that can be imposed if regulations are broken often deter pest <br />management professionals from taking on geese programs. <br />8 <br />
