515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048
www.ci.little-canada.rnn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Blesener and Members of the City Council
FROM: Jim LaValle, Council Member
DATE: May 18, 2006
RE:
Liquor License Fee Increase
On -Sale Liquor License
On -Sale Wine License
MAYOR
Bill Blesener
COUNCIL
Jim LaValie
Rick Montour
Barbara Allan
John Keis
ADMINISTRATOR
Joel R. i-lanson
As you will recall, the Council reviewed the City's license fees for On -Sale Liquor and
On -Sale Wine at a public hearing held earlier this year. The public hearing was
continued and action on this matter was tabled to give me an opportunity to look at the
issue and come back with a recommendation.
Based on my review of these fees, it is my recommendation that the On -Sale Liquor
License fee remain at $3,500 and the On -Sale Wine License fee remain at $500 for the
July 1, 2006 through June 30, 2007 license year. It is also my recommendation that an
increase in these license fees for the 2007/2008 license year be set at a percentage
increase equal to the percentage increase in the City's Gross Levy amount for the 2007
Budget. I would also recommend that we follow this same concept for the four
succeeding years as well (i.e. an increase tied to the gross levy increase for the
corresponding budget year).
I, therefore, request that the Council close the public hearing on this matter and adopt the
recommendation as outlined above.
H: \KathyG \Correspondence \Kathy 2006 \Liquor License Increase- 5- 24- 06.doc
