As you can
see from the survey results attached, all cities surveyed require building permits for
driveways to varying degrees.
Driveway permit fees are minimal given that on -site inspections do not typically occur.
Most cities require site plan submittals so that the building inspector can review the site
plan to ensure that proper setbacks are being met.
In discussing this with the Building Official, it is his position that building permits should
be required for both new and replacement driveways to ensure proper installation. He
currently receives approximately two to three calls per week from residents and
contractors relative to driveway questions. The Building Official recommends a building
permit fee of $25 to cover the cost associated with the driveway building permit review.
