relates to workers compensation and general liability exposures. A potential solution to this
problem would be for the City of Little Canada to hire the off -duty officer and then we would
contract with Montreal Courts. This would give us workers compensation and general liability
exposure that would be covered under our insurance program with the League of Minnesota
Cities Insurance Trust. (LMCIT sees no problem in this approach and it sounds as though
Ramsey County still covers the off -duty officers from a Police Professional Liability standpoint.)
The Council will have to comment on their opinion of this option.
Based on the discussion Wednesday night, we should decide upon a course of action to bring this
matter to a head. If we embark on the road to a new ordinance(s), I would recommend we have a
future workshop or public hearing where all the multi - family property owners would be invited
to attend and comment on our approach. Another consideration we must keep in mind is the
staff time needed for inspections. This can be addressed as we move forward.
cc: George Altendorfer, Undersheriff, RCSD
Lt.
