Hanson <br />www.eLlittle-canada.mn.us <br />MEMORANDUM <br />TO: Mayor Blesener and Members of the City Council <br />FROM: Joel Hanson, City Administrator <br />DATE: January 6, 2006 <br />RE: MN Department of Corrections Contract <br />April 1, 2006 through March 31, 2007 <br />Attached a copy of the renewal contract between the MN Department of Corrections and <br />the City for Institution Community Work Crew (ICWC) on a two -day per week basis for <br />the 2006/2007 license period. Please note that the cost to the City under the 2005/2006 <br />contract was $17,500 per day for $35,000. The proposed cost for 2006/2007 is $18,750 <br />per day, or $37,500 under the two -day contract. This cost covers a Department of <br />Corrections Crew Leader and up to ten offender crewmembers for two ten -hour workdays <br />per week (ten hour day includes crew leader daily preparation, communication, and travel <br />time). <br />The City has had no difficulty in keeping the ICWC crew busy during either the summer <br />or the winter months. Examples of some of the projects completed are listed below. <br />Please also see the attached quarterly report from the Department of Corrections. <br />Fire Hydrant Painting <br />Little Canada Road Landscaping <br />Rain Water Garden Planting (est. savings $5,000) <br />County Road B -2 Fence Demolition (est. savings $5,000) <br />City Center Fence Installation <br />Parks Grounds Maintenance <br />Some planned 2006 projects include: <br />Country Drive brush removal in preparation for sidewalk project (est. $2,500 <br />savings); <br />Old Fire Hall reconstruction of retaining wall (est. $4,000 savings); <br />
