Hanson
www.ci.little-canada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
To: Mayor Blesener & Members of City Council
From: Bill Dircks, Public Works Superintendent
Date: January 25, 2006
Re: Generator Information
Staff has received the quote from PowerHouse Systems for new and used generators.
The new generator prices are about the same as the price quoted by Ziegler for its new
generator. However, PowerHouse included a quote on a 1999 Multi -Quip brand
Generator. It has 2000 hours of use on it but has been refurbished inside and out.
PowerHouse is offering a one -year warranty on the unit compared to a three -year
warranty for the new generators. The price is $21,250. The unit is currently in Idaho so
staff has not been able to physically see it but PowerHouse is trying to send some pictures
over and has sent the specifications over already. There should not be much of a problem
with the number of hours already on the machine since the generator is intended mainly
for emergency use. Staff does not intend to use it any more than necessary. The 200 kW
generator the City currently owns is a year 2000 model and it has about 200 hours of use
on it. Therefore, it is staff's recommendation that the City purchase the 1999 Mutli -Quip
100 kW generator from PowerHouse Systems on the condition that is inspected by staff
and meets our needs. PowerHouse will have the generator shipped to Minnesota and
allow staff to check it out before we purchase it if the council authorizes staff to purchase
it.
3
