We are aware that traffic mitigation options are being evaluated. However, we find it
difficult to believe that are any financially feasible measures that can be implemented
prior to reconstruction of the bridge which will greatly improve traffic flow in this area.
While we are willing to keep an open mind, clear and convincing evidence will be needed
to enable us to support a new Park & Ride facility ahead of the reconstruction of the
bridge. To that end, we ask that we (and our neighboring jurisdictions) be involved in the
decision making process and that construction of this facility not proceed without
approval of our City Council. We would also request that Metro Transit actively support
the funding of the design of a new Rice Street bridge over Highway 36 during this
legislative session in order to achieve a long -term solution to this issue that can benefit us
all.
Little Canada has enjoyed the positive working relationship we have had with Metro
Transit over the years. We desire that we can continue to work together to achieve
positive results for the northeast metro area.
Thank you for considering our position.
Sincerely,
William Blesener
Mayor
cc: Senator John Marty
Representative Beverly Scalze
Commissioner Jan Parker
Ken Haider, Ramsey County Public Works
Mayor Craig Klausing, City of Roseville
Mayor Diana Longrie, City of Maplewood
6
