MAYOR
Bill Blesener
COUNCIL
Jim I aValle
Rick Montour
Barbara Allan
John Keis
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117-J600 ADMINISTRATOR
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048 Joel R. Hanson
www.M.little-canacla.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Blesener and Members of the City Council
FROM: Kathy Glanzer, City Clerk
DATE: February 16, 2006
RE: Amendment to Liquor Ordinance Relative to Number of Off -Sale
Liquor Licenses Allowed
Attached is a letter from Tom Vogt, owner of Gas -N -Go on Rice Street, requesting that
the City amend its Liquor Ordinance to allow for four (4) Off -Sale Liquor Licenses in
Little Canada. Mr. Vogt would like to include the sale of liquor as part of his gas
station /convenience store operation.
The State Statute allows Little Canada to set the number of Off -Sale Licenses as the City
feels appropriate (see Statute attached). Also attached is a copy of the City Code which
limits Off -Sale Licenses to three (3) until such time as the population rises to 20,000.
It is my understanding that the Gas -N -Go property is currently listed for sale. I discussed
this with Mr. Vogt, who indicated that he has had no interest from anyone to purchase the
property. It is his feeling that the addition of an Off -Sale License for his business will
help him to continue to operate a successful business.
Mr. Vogt will be present at Wednesday's meeting to discuss his request.
