MAYOR
13111 Blesener
COUNCIL
Jim LaValle
Rick Montour
Barbara Allan
John Keis
515 Little Canada Road, Little Canada, MN 55117 -1600 ADMINISTRATOR
(651) 766 -4029 / FAX: (651) 766 -4048 Joel R. Hanson
www.ei.little-canada.mn.us
MEMORANDUM
TO: Mayor Blesener and Members of the City Council
FROM: Jim Morelan, Parks & Recreation Director
DATE: February 17, 2006
RE: Purchase of Large Area Mower & Rink Sweeper
Three bids have been received to replace our 1999 large area mower for the Parks &
Recreation Maintenance Department:
Turfwerks Company Jacobsen Brand $42,940
MTI Dist. Toro Brand $46,327
Garceau Hardware John Deere Brand $42,737
All three mowers have comparable features and would be able to perform the tasks
needed. The mower being replaced is the same model Jacobsen that is being quoted by
Turfwerks. I would recommend the purchase of the Jacobsen mower from Turfwerks at a
cost of $42,940. Our current supply of spare parts, along with the knowledge of
operation of the Jacobsen mower, more than offsets the difference in cost from the
Jacobsen to the John Deere mower.
In addition, I would recommend the purchase an M -B 6 foot broom from Turfwerks to
mount on our existing 1999 Jacobsen mower to be used as a skating rink sweeper at an
installed cost of $6,974.
The 2006 General Capital Improvement Budget contains $55,000 and $6,000 respectively
for the above purchases.
